,Yue Guang Bai is one of the most underrated white teas out there. With huge interesting leaves and amazing flavor, it can become one of your favorite teas with only one brew.

There are famous teas and there are less famous teas. I always like to remind all tea drinkers that every single tea should be enjoyable, no matter is it expensive or cheap. Some teas are rare to find, either because they are produced in small quantities, or not so easy to find online. You cannot find Yue Guang Bai that easily online, that it, you cannot find it easily if you don’t know where to search for. There are a few dozens of tea vendors selling Yue Guang Bai, but you will rarely find it in your typical flavored teas shop.

Yue Guang Bai – the underrated tea

Name: Yue Guang Bai
Tea Vendor: Esgreen (China)
Tea Type: Chinese white tea

Yue Guang Bai (kin: 月光白, pinyin: yue4guang1bai2) is definitely one of the most underrated teas on the market. Its name can be translated as Moonlight White. 50 grams costs only 3.5 USD, and almost all vendors list it under similar price. It comes from spring harvest, from Jing Mai in Yunnan, hearth of pu’er teas. Leaves are huge and beautiful, made from large leaf varietal. Yue Guang Bai is an intriguing mix of huge fluffy white buds and purple leaves. Yunnan white teas are very different from standard Fujian white teas, and in my opinion, can offer a lot. Besides, you can let it age and enjoy a whole new tea after some years.

Easy brewing

What I really like about Yue Guang Bai is that it is almost impossible to ruin. It’s perfect brewed gongfu style, or with longer steeping times. No matter which one you choose, it will always be perfect, which is not the case with most white teas or sheng pu’ers. 10 seconds, 150 ml of water, 90 degrees. Short steeping time will give a lighter and more refreshing cup. You can use the same leaves at least 6-7 times. Flavor is a mix of white tea, sheng pu’ers, and fresh Yunnan black teas. It’s very mellow, a bit malty, sweet, with hints of tobacco, smooth are rich. It has no bitterness at all, which makes it a great choice for beginners.

Yue Guang Bai

Yue Guang Bai is a good tea, good as an affordable everyday tea, especially for those who like Yunnan teas. Recommend drinking it immediately, otherwise, it will change both taste and color very fast.
