Baozhong Oolong

Taiwanese Outcast

I really like the look of Baozhong Oolong leaves. Maybe because almost all Taiwanese oolongs are shaped in balls and this one is different, or maybe because of the very pretty color, but Baozhong Oolong has always been one of my favorite green oolongs. Dry leaves have a deep green and flowery scent. In my opinion, it shares quite similar personality with some Taiwanese gao shan oolongs. I really like everything about it – from the amazing scent to beautiful full and long turtle green leaves. I prefer less oxidized oolongs, so I was really looking forward to this one. The price of Baozhong Oolong from Tea Repertoire is £ 11 for 25 grams. It is organically grown and comes from Nangang District of Taipei.

There are no big surprises with this tea – which is a very good thing when searching for a reliable daily tea you can truly enjoy. Heated teapot reveals a very creamy note and intensifies the flowery and green scents of dry leaves. I really enjoy this scent. It’s like a green comfort tea, easy to drink, refreshing and full of aroma. Almost like a good gao shan, but with a bit of wilderness and rawness, a tea outcast. The one that didn’t want to be like others. Color is very beautiful, translucent pale lemony-yellow. First infusion has a very intense flavor with pronounced floral aroma, quite strong and full, but without bitterness. I personally find the second one to be the best one and very well balanced in all possible ways.

Baozhong Oolong

This tea stays truthful to its personality, scents, texture and flavor throughout all steeps. It doesn’t change that much and offers at least 4 great infusions, which is quite rare considering long steep times. Even the wet leaves are pretty, so ordinary and yet, so beautiful – full, unbroken, not big nor small.

Baozhong Oolong

This is an amazing every day tea. It might not offer enough „wow“ moments for advanced drinkers, but it is definitely the best every day green oolong one could find. It’s smooth, creamy, floral, refreshing and leaves a nice sweet aftertaste. There is absolutely no bitterness, it’s very rewarding and forgiving to brewing mistakes. The price is more affordable than gao shan Taiwanese teas, which is one more plus. It’s all in one tea – comforting, warming, refreshing, everyday, evening, morning, summer, winter, all in one tea.
